Nature of event

1. Particularly intended for older senior school/college pupils. Explores different approaches to design, from step-by-step logical thinking to totally imaginative and whacky. Led by Stacey Harvey-Brown.
2. Talk by Dr Melanie Miller, Route Leader, MA Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University. Explores embroidery machines and their products from the eary 19th century to the present.
3. A day school aimed at practitioners and students seeking a better understanding of how design impacts on the production process and conversely.
4. An illustrated talk from Stacey Harvey-Brown. Focuses on European jacquard weaving from draw looms to the present day.
5. Professor Anne Morrell will conduct a master-class based on her latest publication, The migration of stitches and the practice of stitch as a movement. The class will follow the publication page by page
6. An illustrated talk by Stacey Harvey-Brown. Describes the use of fabric analysis from woven archive collections as inspiration for contemporary design.
7. 15 gifted contemporary artists have created individual works using the pantograph embroidery technique that the last working Schiffli machine employs

1. Tuesday June 17th 10am – 4pm. Price £20. Free to students in full time education. Includes a sandwich lunch. Booking essential on 01625 612045.

3. Saturday July 12th 10am – 3.30pm. Price £34 including hot buffet lunch, tea and coffee and admission to the exhibition ‘Mechanical Drawing: the Schiffli project at the nearby Park Lane Galleries.
4. Wednesday July 16th 2pm Price £4. Students £3 Booking essential on 01625 612045.
5. Thursday July 17th 10.30am – 3pm £25 which includes a light lunch. Materials provided
