Northwest Firsts

Swing aqueduct -
first and only swing aqueduct in the world is at Barton. Built in 1893, it carries the Bridgewater Canal over the Ship Canal and carries 800 tons of water.

Trams

Metrolink, Manchester’s impressive light railway network, allows easy travel in the city centre and further afield. With routes from Bury, Altrincham and Eccles all serving the city centre. Tel: 0161 205 2000.
