Castlefield Heritage Trail

This trail weaves around the Castlefield area of Manchester's city centre, uncovering the variety of transport heritage associated with the area.  Castlefield's unique links with transportation sprung out of the industrial revolution which changed the shape of the area and the city of Manchester.

The Liverpool & Manchester Railway was the world’s first inter-city railway and the Liverpool Road Station in Castlefield is the oldest surviving railway station in the world.

The area is also home to the Rochdale and Bridgewater canals plus numerous bridges criss-crossing the water, railway lines and roads. There's also the Museum of Science and Industry Manchester to discover and a variety of restaurants and bars perfect for a mid-trail pit-stop.
